About the Artwork

N. Dash’s spare and ecologically driven paintings incorporate materials such as earth, paint, plastic bottles, string, agricultural netting, strips of Styrofoam, cast-off cardboard, and jute into compositions that draw from the languages and methods of sculpture, photography, and printmaking. Dash’s work harmonizes subtle energy systems by transforming humble substances through the fundamental forces of touch, attention and care. Dash’s work has been presented in solo exhibitions at Hammer Museum, Los Angeles; Fondazione Guilliani, Rome; SITE Santa Fe, New Mexico; S.M.A.K., Ghent, Belgium; Aldrich Museum of Contemporary Art, Ridgefield, CT; Museum of Contemporary Art Santa Barbara, CA; and White Flag Projects, St. Louis, MO. Works by N. Dash are included in the public collections of the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, NY; Whitney Museum of American Art, NY; Museum of Modern Art, NY; SFMOMA; Sammlung Goetz, Munich; Dallas Museum of Art; Fonds régional d’art contemporain des Pays de la Loire, Carquefou; Hammer Museum, Los Angeles; The Margulies Collection, Miami; Blanton Museum of Art, Austin; Kupferstichkabinett, Berlin; SCAD Museum of Art, Savannah, GA; and The Art Gallery of New South Wales, Sydney, among others.
