About the Artwork

Laeh Glenn’s work navigates the tension between the slick sterility of contemporary digital imagery and the long history of painting and process-based work. Her paintings address the digital life of an image, exploring how repetition and sharing influence image quality, and how painting has the ability to converse with damaged images. Her works document a slowness of seeing, concretizing time through the meticulous application of paint. In Glenn’s recent paintings, she uses as her source material three-dimensional vector models created for and in digitized space. Working with virtual flowers that are utilized for gaming, marketing, or in architectural renderings, Glenn reanimates her digital subjects through her intimate and methodical painting process; what appears at first glance to be flat digital imagery morphs upon closer inspection into a lush, hand-painted surface. Glenn made the bewitching blooms of Malva especially for Headlands’ Auction. Glenn’s work has been the subject of solo exhibitions in Los Angeles at The Vanity Gallery, Thomas Duncan Gallery, and New Wight Gallery, and in San Francisco at Altman Siegel. She has been featured in group exhibitions including, among others, at Friends Indeed, San Francisco; Tanya Leighton, Berlin; Shane Campbell Gallery, Chicago; Cressman Center for Visual Arts, Louisville, KY; Palazzo Fruscione, Salerno, Italy; PIASA, Paris; Venus Over Manhattan, NY; and Night Gallery, Los Angeles.
