About the Artwork
Michael Gregory is well known for his paintings of barns and silos set against vast landscapes. Gregory’s works often appear so true to life and rich in detail that they have been construed as photographic in nature, yet most of his scenes are amalgams painted from memory. Aurora is an ode to a fictional location that we still recognize as a real place. Gregory provides his viewer with a glimpse into a certain kind of American experience—one of travel, space, beauty, loneliness, and the fluctuations of fortune. Here, the barn commands our attention, inviting us to take shelter under the sturdy peak of its gambrel, as we fully occupy a moment in time: that rare light before a storm. Gregory's work is included in many private and public collections, including that of the The U.S. Trust Company in New York, Microsoft Corporation, General Mills Corporation, and the Denver Art Museum.
