About the Artwork

Kaveh Irani (Headlands Graduate Fellow ‘15) is an Iranian-born visual artist whose practice includes painting, collages, sculpture, and sound installations. His work investigates the concept of identity diaspora and topophilia, a love of place. Ravel is one of Irani’s series of triptychs featuring paintings of pipes in figurative positions, intertwined like limbs at rest. The series emerged out of the concept and the experience of duality among immigrants. Irani’s works exist in that space of duality—a consideration of one’s physical presence in one place, juxtaposed with memories of another. The Triptych Pipe series represents the continuation of a project started a decade ago; the work shown here encapsulates a full-circle journey which began with paintings, moved into sculpture and installation, and now includes paintings inspired by those sculptures.
