About the Artwork

Shadow Begonia, Slice is from Lauren Luloff’s bleach painting series spanning 2011 to 2017, inspired by trips to India and her study of traditional block printing. Luloff was consumed by the complex Islamic patterns she studied in India, painting them with a range of bleach strengths to mimic the multiple blocks used in printing. Through her mastery of the medium in its various potencies, Luloff infuses each work with detail, light, and shadow; she then collages the paintings with stretches of transparent fabric—a process that may take a few weeks to a year—to shape the ethereal final work. Luloff has had recent solo exhibitions with Ceysson and Benetiere, NY; Halsey McKay Gallery, East Hampton, NY; Galerie Bernard Ceysson, Luxembourg and Geneva, Switzerland; and Annarumma Gallery, Naples, Italy. Her work has been featured and reviewed in The New York Times, Vogue, T Magazine, and Art in America, among others.
