About the Artwork
Color exploration, symbols, and motion are ever-present in Kelly Ording's work. In pieces meticulously composed and executed with the highest level of patience and intention, her themes and approach range from nature-based symbolism to geometric, mathematical, and decisive works unfolding according to a premeditated plan. TBT (Blue Balance Rock) is a prime example of the artist’s fluid movement between line, form, and shape. As the base for her luminous paintings, Ording creates a textured, rich surface by soaking her paper with liquid and salts; here, the idea of rock meets the feel of a salty, shimmering sea, land and water intersecting again and again. Ording’s work is included in the collections of SFMOMA, the San Francisco Arts Commission Public and Civic Art Collection, and the Alameda County Collection, to name a few. Her public works and murals can be seen in San Francisco’s landmark Clarion Alley; Unity Plaza in San Francisco; Facebook Headquarters; and other locations across the Bay Area and internationally.
